In the present collection some juvenile recordings by this interesting pianist are presented together with more recent ones, both in studio and live. He usually used a very good 1989 baby-grand Yamaha (C3e 1.85). The quality of the recording system (Sony Tc-d3 & Camera Sony Tr 705 Hi) as well as the smallsized studio are unpretentious, whlch didn’t allow a high sound quality. In some live performances the echo may disturb the hearing.
Yet hls warm liric temperament, Belotti’s precise and clear tecnique together which his constant search for beautiful sound are elements \\ hich sharply emerge from the very beginning and as the whole listenin g goes on. At first impact the vivid energy with which Belotti interprets D. Scarlatti and some virtuosistic parts in F. Schubert. F. Chopin and F. Liszt catches the ear. Yet the pianist’s intimistic sensitivity perfectly emerges in the expressive pieces by those same authors and perhaphs reaches his highest. Beethoven’s “Adagio”, played “live”, is marvellous.
His sensitivity allows him later to grasp other nuances when be plays the two pieces by A. Scrjabin and S. Rachmaninoff, probably the greatest rapresentatives ofthe highly prestigious musical tradition of the ”Russian School”, in a way in which he connects himself to the historical interpretations of those same authors, namely ofromantic and yet composed, selfpossessed character.
